Introduction

I help others conquer oneself and regulate one’s life without determining oneself through any means that is disordered.

I am a philosopher, theologian, and social scientist.

Philosophy. I am as existentialist and essentialist philosopher. First and foremost, action following being. This is where Aristotelian matter meets form. Secondly, “to be” (existence) is the starting point for “being” (essence). These two philosophies work together to form the basis upon which counseling practice rests.

Theology. Theology means living your faith. My focus is on Christian theologies; namely, Protestantism and Catholicism. I help protestants and Catholics live their faith by examining their lives and helping believers to align their faiths with daily living. The number one conflict that I encounter disrupting people’s lives is rectifying their religious and secular beliefs. For example, political views often contradict Christianity. This is where theology becomes philosophical. As a counselor, by working to rectify contradictory beliefs, I work to reduce or eliminate such internal conflicts altogether.

Psychology. I am a social scientist because psychology, the study of how people think and how people’s thoughts about things impacts or influences their behavior. As a general psychologist, I am essentially the jack of every type of psychology but not actually the master of any single one. Because psychology is a science, not an art, I work to apply what I learn using case studies concerning people’s individual theologies to their underlying philosophy so that one can conquer oneself and regulate one’s life without determining oneself through any means that is disordered.

Brief and Time Limited

Strategic pastoral counseling is both brief and time limited, working within a suggested maximum of five sessions. – David G. Benner.

Brief and Time Limited. The format I follow is that the first session is devoted to isolated the issue from the presenting matter. When someone comes to us, this involves us asking, “What is the matter?” From this we are able to identify the primary issue. This involves an hour of counseling because the primary approach is Socratic. I have to ask a series of Socratic quesions. This is recorded and transcribed before a report is written that not only draws from the transcript but background information provided by peer-reviewed journals and seminal books. Cost: $450.
